April sees no change at the very top, Despite the fight for world number one becoming yet closer. Nick Matthew is within touching distance after his win at Canary Wharf, but he is held at arms length by Ramy Ashour who triumphed in Kuala Lumpur recently, is it only a matter of time?
The best English news is that Daryl Selby has deservedly achieved his place in the world’s top 10, entering at number 9. This comes on the back of a successful run in Canada, where Selby reached three tour finals, and won the third beating Hisham Ashour. He then had a few days turnaround before competing in the Canary Wharf Classic, putting in a brave display against James Willstrop in the quarter-finals. Selby’s nemesis in Canada, Laurens Jan Anjema, also climbs a few positions to number 11 in the world on the back of his triumphs there.
Elsewhere there is some shuffling around, but of note, is Jonathon Kemp’s debut in the world top 20.
